Survival Guide

"Buy the ticket, take the ride."

— hydrate first

Read this before you get on the plane. It is short, and every line of it exists because someone learned it the hard way.

Four Dispatches

Dispatch 01

Altitude & Alcohol

Oaxaca City sits at 5,100 feet. Your first mezcal will land like your third at sea level, and the hangover arrives early and stays late. Pace yourself deliberately for the first 24 hours — the mountain is doing half the drinking for you.

Dispatch 02

Rapid Hydration

Thin, dry air pulls water out of you without warning. Drink a litre before the calenda and alternate water with everything else all night. Electrolyte sachets in your bag are not paranoia, they are logistics.

Dispatch 03

Weather Swing

Late February runs warm — daytime highs in the 80s°F. Then the sun goes down and it drops to the low 50s°F. The reception is outdoors, all night. Light layers, a jacket, or a wrap are required kit, not an accessory.

Dispatch 04

Transportation

Sprinter vans shuttle guests from Oaxaca Centro to Rancho Cebú and back all night. First departure 16:30 Saturday, last return 03:00. The road out is dark and unlit — take the van, not a rental car.

Loose Ends

Where should we stay?
Oaxaca Centro. Everything on the programme is either in the historic centre or on a shuttle route from it.
Are children invited?
The Friday calenda is open to families. Saturday at Rancho Cebú is adults only.
What's the money situation?
Cash pesos for taxis and street food; cards work in most restaurants. Both nights are open bar.
How late is late?
The rave ends at 03:00 Sunday. There is no soft close. Plan Sunday accordingly.

Two nights at 5,100 feet. Layer up, drink water, take the van.
